Author: PHAEDRUS. Title: Phaedri fabulae, et publii Syri Sententiae.
Description: Parisiis, Ex Typographia Regia M. DCCXXIX 1729. 18mo, 95 x 62 mms., pp. [iv], 86, engraved frontispiece by Philippe Simonneau (c 1685 - 1753), attractively bound in dark maroon morocco, spine ornately gilt in compartments, with label, all edges gilt; corners a little crushed, but a very good to fine copy, inscribed in a near-contemporary hand on upper margin of front free end-paper, "Ex dono clarissimi vivi D Manega." The text was edited by Tanneguy Le Fèvre (Tanaquil[lus] Faber;1615 – 12 September 1672), the father of Anne Dacier, who became a formidable classical scholar; the text here derives from an edition published in 1657. This appears to be the smaller of two editions published in the same year, with larger copies measuring 103 [or larger] x 70 mms. Dibdin refers to it as and "elegant little edition."
