Description: London: Printed for William Owen..., 1758. 12mo, 170 x 97 mms., pp. [iv], 279 [280 - 288 Index], including leaf before title-page giving printing details, contemporary calf; joints rubbed, corners a little worn, but a good to very good copy with the autograph "Mary Collier/ 1758" on the recto of the front free end-paper. The historian and travel writer Thomas Salmon (bap. 1679, d. 1767) was described by the antiquary William Cole to have "no small turn for writing, as his many productions show, most of which were written when he resided at Cambridge" (Oxford DNB). His best-known, and certainly longest, work is his Modern History, or, The Present State of All Nations, which appeared in thirty-one volumes between 1724 and 1738.
