Large 12mo, 176 x 101 mms., pp. [ii], 3 [4 blank], xii [xiii drop-title, xiv blank], 320, contemporary tree calf, spine gilt, cracked, with upper joint broken and repaired, the lower joint cracked but holding,some abrasions to binding. . That first issue is recorded BL and NLS only, this dated issue Liverpool only, plus 2 copies USA and 2 Australia. The author, as she explains in the dedication to a Mrs Pratt, is a teacher [presumably in a private academy for girls] who wanted to find a text on mythology that was free from the usual 'indelicacies' that would make it unsuitable for the eyes of a class of girls. ESTC gives a rather complicated printing history of this volume, suggesting that it was first issued with an undated title-page, replaced here by a cancellans with the date.
