Author: ZOUCH (Thomas): Title: The Life of Isaac Walton: Incluiding Notices of his Contemporareis.
Description: London: Septimus Prowett, Strand. MDCCCXXIII. 1823. 8vo, 208 x 130 mms., pp.[iv], 93 [94 blank], including half-title, 13 engraved plates, original printed boards (slightly soiled), rather unsympathetically rebacked in cloth, with paper label on spine. Thomas Zouch (1737 - 1815) "is chiefly remembered for his more substantial lives of Izaak Walton and Sir Philip Sidney. Zouch's first publication on Walton was an edition of the rare 1680 tract Love and Truth in Two Modest and Peaceable Letters (1795), followed by a splendid edition, dedicated to Pepper Arden, of Walton's Lives of Donne, Wotton, Hooker, Herbert and Sanderson (1796), fully annotated and introduced with Zouch's own life of Walton (ODNB). This 1823 printing is the first of Zouch's account of Walton, and the illustrations are identical with those used by Gosden in his 1822 edition of The Compleat Angler." Coigny p. 405. Westwood & Satchell p. 245.
