Description: Dublin: Printed by M. Mills...For James Moore..., 1793. FIRST DUBLIN EDITION. 8vo, 227 x 130 mms., pp. xxiv, 150, uncut (edges frayed), last page soiled, rebound in recent buckram. The author and politician Charles Francis Sheridan (1750–1806) did not enjoy the literary prestige that his brother the playwright and politician Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1751 -1816). His career did not seem to survive the publication of thje present book, in either its London or Dublin imprint. He strong endorsed the claim that Ireland was, or should be, a separate, independent nation, and he blamed the French revolution for injecting unacceptable French principles into an Irish context. When he died in 1806, the Gentlman's Magazine said of him that he was "a gentleman of most distinguished talents as an author, both in history and political controversy, and no man was more universally beloved and respected in private life." Published in London the same year under the title An Essay upon the True Principles of Civil Liberty.
