Author: RABAGLIATI, GRAHAM WITH DUNCAN RABAGLIATI Title: From Send to Syracuse the History of Connaught the Start of Britain's Grand Prix Dominance
Description: United Kingdom, Douglas Loveridge Publications. 2018, First Edition. (ISBN: 9781900113137). Hard Cover, 335 Pages. Connaught Engineering from Send in Surrey established themselves after World War II. Firstly with their sports car design and then with their single seater Formula 2 car. Rodney Clark, Mike Oliver, Kenneth McAlpine and the small team then bravely took the next step is to develop the car for the new 2 1/2 L Formula 1. They took on the all conquering continental opposition and the might of the Works Maserati team and defeated them when Tony Brooks, in the F1 Connaught, won the 1955 Syracuse Grand Prix. This victory shocked the motor racing establishment as it was the first Grand Prix victory for Britain since 1924, when Henry Segrave won at San Sebastian in Spain in the Sunbeam. This book tells the story of their successes, as well as a struggle with the lack of financial support from British industry, leading to their final closure in 1957. Nevertheless there is no doubt that Connaught was the first step in the creation of today's pre-eminent British motor racing industry. Unread copy in very good condition. Very Good/Very Good.
