Guy Cowan studies at the Clayworking School in New York in 1907. He then became a arts teacher and by 1912 he had his own studio. He formed the Cowan company in 1913 and was off and running. Working through the war years he won the award at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1917. However due to his knowledge of chemical he was soon commissioned in the arm and was perfecting gas masks, After the war he again returned to his company and again returned to teaching at the Cleveland School in the Ceramics Department. His company and fame took off when he designed a line of "Lakeware" which was inexpensive alternative for florists using some of his older molds. He continued to design and though the company had ups and downs due to the depression he ended up closing the company in 1932 and went to work for the Ferro Enamel Company and Onondaga Pottery splitting his week between them where he worked the remainder of his working years. This book is loaded with photos, both color and B&W, co0pies of ads for the pottery, appendix A list: of known limited editions, appendix B, list of Cowan awards won, appendix C, shape numbers, appendix D, Lakeware shape listing, appendix E, Cowan code numbers, appendix, F, color descriptions for the 1925 catalog and bibliography, 173 pages Good.
