Born in the rough and tumble of the goldrush days in Alaska, he was a fighter from the start. Leaving school in 1917 to join the Army Air Service he publicized the fledgling Army Air Corp with hair-raising stunts and escapades, entering and mainly winning every air show around. He was not just a hot shot flyer but also had a doctorate in aeronautical sciences which brought him to the fore in WWII. the bombing of Peal Harbor he formed his band of Tokyo Raiders and planned and carried out their missions, his attacks off carriers help win the war and he was awarded the Medal of Honor. Here is an autobiography worth the read. B&W photos, Appendixes 1-3, career summary, bibliography, index, 574 pages. Good/Good.
