In 1776 while there was trading on Wall Street it was irregular and the various types of commercial paper which until 1789 were nearly worthless. They had financed a great part of the war however it was not until 1790 that the government offered three large offerings. Prior to that most of the bond trading financing the war was done purely as speculation by Dutch and a few American traders. This book covers how the government through these three offerings intended to and did consolidate the new countries finances. Very interesting read and sheds light on today's Wall Street workings. Bonus: Rags to Richs 1776-1836 in like new condition. with laid in poster. Covers the various coins and paper money used in the colonies before greenbacks. B&W and color photos in both. Good.
