Title: Christmas Eve
Description: New York, Alfred A. Knopf, 1952. First Edition with the statement "First Edition" on the copyright page. Colorfully bound in orange, yellow, and white paper-covered boards and stamped in black on the spine. Clean and tight throughout with charming illustrations by Marc Simont. In a near fine colorful dustjacket with the original price of $2.00 net at the top of the inside front flap. With the Marc Simont drawing of Santa driving a cab on the front panel. A very handsome jacket with just the lightest rubbing to the top and bottom of the spine ends. With an original drawing of Alistair Cooke by himself, measuring 5" x 4" and signed "Alistair Cooke." Written on the other side of the drawing is, "Sorry, no photograph--but this is an original--A.C." A delightful and perhaps unique Alistair Cooke item. Near Fine/Near Fine. When the BBC asked Alistair Cooke, three Christmases ago, to "do something different" for his broadcast that fell in Christmas week, he gravely told his radio audience he would tell them "a typical American Christmas Story." The British were startled to hear there was any such genre (so was Cooke), but were delighted with the first taste of it--the story of Zebby Adams, here reprinted. The two succeeding Christamses, Cooke's time was expanded to a half-hour and shifted to Christmas Eve.We present them (the three Christmas stories) to our readers in the proud certainty that if they are not traditional American Christmas stories, they soon will be." (Inside front flap).
