A very clean and handsome copy bound in pink, black, and russet paper-covered boards featuring a drawing of Punch & Judy on the front boards. Touch of soiling and light foxing to the front and rear boards. Bound with a clean, crisp woven black cloth spine. Very clean and tight throughout with a touch of foxing to the paste-downs. In a splendid, complete dust jacket which can be transformed into a puppet stage. The inside flaps are extended and feature various finger puppet characters which can be removed and used. Light edge-rubbing and a small abrasion on the letter "U" in Judy on the front panel. Otherwise, very good plus. An unusual and uncommon item featuring the classic British pair of Punch & Judy and their portable stage in collector's condition, untrodden upon the stage. Punch and Judy is a traditional, popular, and usually very violent puppet show featuring Pulcinella (Mr. Punch) and his wife Judy. The performance consists of a sequence of short scenes, each depicting an interaction between two characters, most typically Mr. Punch and one other character (who usually falls victim to Mr. Punch's club). It is often associated with traditional British seaside culture. The various episodes of Punch and Judy are performed in the spirit of outrageous comedy ó often provoking shocked laughter ó and are dominated by the clowning of Mr. Punch. (Wikipedia) .
