In 1897 he visited Abyssinia (now Ethiopia), and wrote several articles for Le Figaro, describing the Italian soldiers being held captive in Ethiopia, during the first First Italo-Ethiopian War, as cowards. Prince Vittorio Emanuele, Count of Turin challenged him to a duel, which became a cause célèbre.This work is an account of Prince Henri’s journey to meet Ménélick II, who became Emperor of Ethiopia from 1889 to 1913..
