Lionel Gilbert Ollyett Woodhouse (1888 -1965) was an English civil servant and naturalist. This edition contains additional information on the immature stages of 41 species not previously known, and seven additional plates showing male genitalia. This work is the result of Woodhouse's 38 years in the Survey Department of the Government of Ceylon, where he rose to the position of 18th Surveyor General. His post gave him unparalleled access to the island’s diverse butterfly populations, making this a seminal work in the field of Lepidoptera study in the region..
