Born in Wales he was appointed Head of Arachnida at the Natural History Museum, London in 1951. He focused on the taxonomy of the Acari, publishing papers on the morphology and taxonomy of the Mesostigmata. Two important monographs included Terrestrial Acari of the British Isles, (1961) published with Gordon Sheals and Don Macfarlane, and Mesostigmatic mites of Britain and Ireland (1979) with W.M. Till. After leaving the Natural History Museum, Evans held two short appointments, as Professor of Zoology at the University of Maryland, USA (1967-68) and Senior Fellow at the New University of Ulster, Coleraine, Northern Ireland. Evans then joined University College Dublin in 1970, as Professor of Agricultural Zoology.The archive includes 71 short papers published by Evans as listed below.
