One letter from American malacologist, Henry Augustus Pilsbry (1862-1957) of the Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia, dated May 25th 1894, is in response to an editorial protest on p. 11 of Vol. I, concerning right of priority of description of a species, described and illustrated there by Smith. A type specimen had been left with Pilsbry by Smith on a visit to the United States while this paper was in press and Pilsbury had included the species in one of his publications before Smith's description had been published!
