Fascinating series recording the geological and mineral explorations and exploitation of British colonies and dependent territories towards the end of the British colonial period and during the transition of former colonies to the Commonwealth. The editorial in Vol. 1 states that 'The purpose of Colonial Geology and Mineral Resources is to record the progress that is being made in the geological investigation of these territories with a view to their economic development.' A change of title with Vol. 7 was noted in an editorial, 'our former title, embodying the word ‘Colonial’ is no longer appropriate'. The journal was edited by E.H. Beard, Mineral Resources Division of the Colonial Geological Surveys.Wide ranging in topics (including geological surveys, palaeontological findings, mineral deposits, expedition reports and volcanology etc.) and in geographic scope (including reports from all parts of the ‘dependent territories of the Commonwealth, for example Jamaica, Somaliland, Uganda, Rhodesia, Kenya etc.), it is extensively illustrated with b/w photos and many folding maps..
