The two plain plates are foxed. Several owners' names to endpaper. Good.. First edition. First of three published parts, all of which are rare. Plates by the author, one finely hand-coloured. Frederick William Hope (1797-1862) was an English clergyman, naturalist and entomologist, who founded a professorship at the University of Oxford to which he gave his entire collections of insects in 1849 (now known as the Hope Entomological Collections). He was mainly interested in Coleoptera, and described many new species. He was a founder member of the Entomological Society of London in 1833 along with John Obadiah Westwood.Horn Schenkling 10691..
