This work features thirty-six original watercolour drawings, each executed by the author himself, depicting British hawk moths and their larvae. The illustrations were drawn from specimens in Johnson's own cabinet, showcasing both his keen observational skill and artistic talent. Johnson produced several similar works on entomological subjects, each privately published in extremely limited numbers and adorned with his fine watercolours. These publications were never commercially distributed, and their rarity today attests to their limited circulation.
