Signature of William Swann to endpaper. The signature most likely belonges to W. Swann (1818–1894), Scottish physicist, professor of natural philosophy at St Andrews, published author of over twenty papers in scientific journals on various aspects of physics, including meteorology, lighthouse illumination; his research contributed toward the development of new scientific instruments, particularly developing prisms for spectroscopic work.
