Looking out across the desert he thought: "This land would be valuable if water should be brought upon it …" Little did he know how prophetic were his thoughts...Unlike other pioneers of the early West, McCallum's move to the desert was not motivated by a burning quest for the frontier, or by a lust for gold. A successful San Francisco lawyer and political figure, he was motivated to move to the desert by the practical demands of fatherhood.
