'This book endeavors to point out first the commonly accepted goals which every horseman has pertaining both to the training of his horse and the training of himself or his pupils, to expalin the seat which General Mariles considers the best and why, and then to show the methods whereby he trains both horses and riders." " This is, in essence, a brief outline of this highly technical book. Opening with a short chapter on the evolution of the modern seat, the author proceeds to introduce us to General Humberto Mariles-Cortes, famed head of the Mexican National Riding Club. With a detailed description and discussion of the school which is part of the Club, as well as the buildings, acreage, equipment, and facilities, she treats in individual chapters, the various stages of training horse and rider. Merely for the sake of a review of fundamental principles (especially in relation to the more difficult dressage movements) , the author has included definitions and detailed descriptions of accepted methods of training horse and rider. But this is very definitely a book for the reader who has a good basic understanding of horsemanship and the training of horses, and is familiar with common terms used in riding.' Index..
