Title: My Life Among the Eskimos - the Baffinland Journeys / Journals of Bernhard Adolph Hantzsch in the Years 1909-1911
Description: Saskatoon: University of Saskatchewan, 1977. First English Edition. Hardcover. ISBN: 0888800037. Illustrated by Kupsch, W.O.; Rowley, G.W.. "At the age of 34 Bernhard Hantzsch left Dresden in July, 1909, with the material support of several German scientific groups to explore the west coast of Baffin Island. He had already carried out summer zoological expeditions to Iceland and Ungava Bay, and knew something of the conditions he was likely to encounter. He planned to rely on the help of the Eskimos and to travel with them from Cumberland Sound across Baffin Island to Foxe Basin, north and west to Fury and Hecla Strait, and then on to Pond Inlet. Although these journeys had all been made by Eskimos, the country was completely unknown to white men. Hantzsch's account describes in great detail how he achieved part of his objective, the difficulties he encountered, and the sickness that caused his death on the coast of Foxe Basin, near the mouth of the river that now bears his name." - Foreword. pp. xxii, 396.
