Author: MCCORMIK, LOUISA; REICHARD, DON Title: Antique Humorous Illustrated Poster of Skagtown [Skagway] Alaska
Description: Edmonton, Alberta: M.H.K.C.B. Sign Shop, 1921. First Edition. Poster. A humorous depiction of the boomtown days of Skagway, Alaska in the 1920s. Prominent features include a Y.P. & Y.R.R. [White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad] train in foreground, behind which runs the main street of Skagway, beyond which lies a mountain range. Funny captions abound, most following a bawdy theme. Replete with houses of ill-repute and a cast of drunks and loose women. Undated but, judging by the steam locomotive, wooden sidewalks, 1920-ish looking car and, most notably, the movie house featuring "The Sheik" starring Rudolph Valentino (a 1921 silent film), it would seem this unusual item is over a century old. Unmarked with average wear. Has been folded into sixteen panels. 29.4 x 14.3" Monochrome cartoon illustrations on thin sepia-toned stock. A sound example of this fun and quirky vintage item.; Folio. Good .
