Title: Ancient Indian Colonies in the Far East, Volume 2: Suvarnadvipa, Part I - Political History
Description: Ramna, Dacca: Asoke Kumar Majumdar, 1937. First edition. Pp. xviii, 436, 16 (index); 2 maps. Later one-half red cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine, over blue marbled boards, lg 8vo. The term Suvarnabhumi (""Land of Gold""), is commonly thought to refer to the Southeast Asian Peninsula, including lower Burma and the Malay Peninsula. However there is another gold-referring term Suvarnadvipa (""Islands of Gold""), which may correspond to the Indonesian Archipelago, especially Sumatra. Both terms might refer to a powerful coastal or island kingdom in present-day Indonesia and Malaysia, possibly centered on Sumatra or Java (from Wiki). No ownership marks. Rare work. There is light foxing and occasional browning to the text, small repair made to verso of the title page; overall a tight copy in very good condition..
