Title: Pearls and Pearling Life.
Description: London: George Bell and Sons, 1886. First edition. Pp. i-xvi, (1), 17-329, (1); tinted frontispiece, 7 fine full-page chromolithographs shells and pearls, 1 folding map, 2 tinted full page plates, 11 text-figures. Contemporary full tree-calf leather, spine with 5 raised bands lettered in gilt on a black morocco author/title label in one compartment and with elaborately blind-stamped gilt decorations in the other 5 compartments, the borders of the front and rear covers are decorated in lacey gilt, elaborated gilt turn-ins also border the French marbled endpapers, 8vo. A finely bound copy of an interesting work on all aspects of the pearl industry in the later 19th century. The tinted frontispiece illustration is in fine color facsimile and is expertly mounted (see photo). From the library of South African author, Morris J. Cohen, with his custom color bookplate on the front endpaper. Foxing to the blank front and rear endpapers only, light age toning to some text pages, the fine chromolithograph plates and other illustrations are bright and clean; a tight copy with no signs of use in near fine condition..
