Written just after the publication of Darwin's 'Origin of Species,' this monograph grapples with the consequences of viewing mammalian distribution in an evolutionary framework. A historically important and scarce title. Single old circular stamp of Belcher Library, Gaysville, Vermont on the front endpaper, no other ownership marks. Light edge wear to cloth at the head and foot of the spine, foxing to the rear (blank) side of the frontis plate, double-page map 28 has a small stain along the outer top edge - all remaining parts of the text, plates and maps are bright and clean without any foxing or browning; a bright and clean copy in near fine condition..
