Title: L'Esprit Nouveau (Issues No. 1 Through No. 17)
Description: Paris, Editions de L'Esprit Nouveau, 1922. Paperback. White wraps; various paginations; richly illustrated. These issues were found and are being sold as a bundled group. Scarce to find these individual issues in their original wrappers, deficient as a few may be in terms of condition. All indications are that issues are complete. There is no evidence of removal of any pages, but these issues have not been fully collated. Please inquire for specific questions or issue requests. A compilation of our research within various online sources indicates the following: "In 1920, Le Corbusier, Amédée Ozenfant and Paul Dermée joined forces to found the magazine "L'Esprit nouveau". The first sections concern fine arts, engineering aesthetics, architecture, urban planning and decorative arts but thanks to the help of many contributors, the themes extend to painting, sculpture, literature, music, cinema, theater, sport, health, lifestyle, aesthetics of modern life, etc. Each issue contains critical, artistic, literary, musical, sometimes political articles, press clippings, lists of books and magazines, and reproductions of works of art related to cubism. Publication of the magazine ended in 1925." "One of the most important art and literary magazines of the modern era. Published under the direction of the poet Paul Dermée and the intellectual guidance of Amédée Ozenfant and Ch.-E. Jeanneret (Le Corbusier)« (Hans Bolliger) - With numerous important contributions in first editions by Louis Aragon, Jean Cocteau, Le Corbusier, Ivan Goll, Francis Picabia, Maurice Raynal, Erik Satie and others." Very scarce, especially in continual runs. This group represents the first 17 issues (of 28 in total). Good (Wraps have verying degrees of chipping or damage to spine strips; wraps are scuffed/smudged/toned/foxed; some covers are detached; some have broken textblocks; some have broken spines; binding is solid in many issues; textblock edges are chipped/toned/smudged; interiors are toned, but clean, and may be lightly foxed/smudged; there is penciled marginalia in some issues.) .
