Anonymous - Tulip - anonymous, c. 1825

Title: Tulip - anonymous, c. 1825
Description: PORTRAIT OF A 'BROKEN' YELLOW TULIP Drawing in gouache and watercolour, likely by a Dutch master, created around 1825. The paper bears a watermark: "J. Whatman Turkey Mill 1824." Size (frame): 64 x 47 cm. This elegant 'broken' tulip is painted in a botanical style reminiscent of the works of Nicolas Robert (1614–1685). The flower features broad, undulating petals in a warm yellow hue, with subtle red accents along the edges. The core of the tulip is clearly visible, with detailed stamens and a carefully rendered pistil. The stem is gracefully curved, and the large green leaf has a natural sheen, further enhanced by a few droplets of water that add vibrancy to the composition. The artwork is delicate and precise, characteristic of 18th-century botanical illustrations. The subtle gradation of colour and fine shading give the flower an almost three-dimensional effect. This piece aligns with the Dutch tradition of botanical art, where scientific accuracy and aesthetic beauty merge seamlessly. Price: Euro 1.950,- (incl. frame)
