Coloured by a later hand. Size (image): 34 x 26 cm. During the course of the 18th century, the Oudezijds Herenlogement on the Grimburgwal in Amsterdam was repurposed. The prestigious city hotel became a house for public auctions. We see the auctioneer, from a window on the first floor, auctioning paintings. This likely pertains to the public sale of the collection of Johan van der Marck Aegidiusz, the mayor of Leiden who passed away in 1772, on August 25, 1773. The building was demolished in 1874 to make way for new construction for the Binnengasthuis (a hospital). Price: Euro 225,-
