Daughter of a Swiss village pastor, having moved to Paris, while devoted to her family life and staunchly upholding her Christian faith she managed to charm the fiercely freethinking and libertine luminaries of Parisian society, and allowed them to charm her. Her husband, finance minister Necker, was generally expected to initiate the French Revolution but on the contrary was toppled by it. They fled to Switzerland, where she died. Her husband lovingly collected this edition, which faithfully reflects the happy atmosphere of 18th century Paris salons. (code N-38)
