Description: This "boy wonder" mining engineer raised himself by his bookstraps, serving as Secretary of Commerce under Harding and Coolidge, until he became the 31st President of the United States. TLS, 1p, 7 1/4" X 10 1/2", New York, NY, 26 January 1942. Addressed to Harold E. Meyer. Very good. Minor show-through from small mounting traces on verso and couple of archivally closed (on verso) edge tears. Writing from the Waldorf Astoria, the ex-president graciously declines a cryptic invitation extended by this to address a Sunday school group. Comes with a fine 1928 news agency photograph of Herbert and Lou Henry Hoover on the rear platform of a train. .
