Author: WILLIAMS, Charles Title: It Was All Very Strange
Description: New York, Abelard Press, 1953. Hardcover. Illustrations by Kathleen Elgin. 8vo. Tan cloth with black spine lettering. 159pp. Line drawings. Very good. Internally tight and fine, with binding (only) mildly age toned and edgeworn; lacks dust jacket. Nice first edition of this children's fantasy whose jacket front panel (not present with this copy) describes it as "Twenty gay stories as told by Uncle Fritz." Front flyleaf boldly inscribed and signed by the author large and bold in black ink: "To the Stuhrs / with warm regards, / Charles Williams." Precious little is known of Charles Wilbur Williams (1917-92), whose output seems to consist of this title and a popular 1955 title "The Rolling Pin," another children's fantasy narrated by Uncle Fritz and involving a dog that paints and a frog that sings opera. Very uncommon. .
