Tight, handsome first edition of this chronicle of the historic southwest Wisconsin town. Handsomely signed and inscribed by the author in black ballpoint on half-title page: "For the desk library of Sister / Mary Nona O.P. with thanks for her / interest in the old lead and / zinc area in southwestern / Wisconsin, and with the best / wishes and the prayers of the author, / George Fiedler / Mineral Point / April 11, 1964." The aforesaid Sister Nona signs in pencil on front flyleaf. Mary Nona McGreal (1914-2013) was a noted Dominican educator and historian who authored a biography of Father Samuel Mazzuchelli (founder of the Dominicans of Sinsinawa, Wisconsin) and contributed much toward texts on the Dominicans (or O.P. = Order of Preachers); she served as president of Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin (1950-58) and in various positions for decades at Sinsinawa. The Dominicans and Sinsinawa appear a number of times in Fiedler's history. .
