HUTSON, Don (1913-97) - Signed Program

Title: Signed Program
Description: The pro football wide receiver nicknamed the "Alabama Antelope" debuted with the Green Bay Packers in 1935 and remained for eleven seasons earning accolades galore, later returning there as a coach; among numerous honors he was elected a charter member of the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951, the Pro Football Hall of Fame following in 1963. Signed Program, 8½" X 11", 6pp, published by The Olsen Publishing Co. in 1961. Very good. Faint center vertical fold and small ownership name at upper right, else fine. Titled "Tenth Anniversary of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame," this booklet commemorates the "Fifth Annual / Milwaukee Press Club / Hall of Fame Dinner / Thursday, November 16 / Milwaukee Arena." Pictorial front wrapper in blue and gold shows artist Frank Marasco's rendering of a row of athletes (football, track, tennis, basketball, etc.) facing the viewer, while in the foreground with back to viewer is a father with arm draped across his son's shoulders. In a blank area just above the athletes, Hutson signs and inscribes in a thick but a light light blue ink: "Best Regards / to Bill, / Don Hutson." Inside contents consist of (front to back) "Menu" page, "Speakers Table" (with Hutson included) page, "Program" centerfold detailing the evening's speakers (with 32 circular medallion images around perimeter, including Hutson), a "Hall of Fame Dinner Committees" page and a "Sponsor Membership of Wisconsin's Athletic Hall of Fame. Quite unusual. .
