 - The Wisconsin Blue Book

Title: The Wisconsin Blue Book
Description: Madison, WI, Democrat Printing Co, 1913. Hardcover. 8vo. Vibrant blue cloth with gilt lettering and decoration. 717pp. Frontispiece, full-page plates, extensive tables, maps. Very good. Very faintest of binding wear only, with spine gilt lightly rubbed; else tight and internally fine. Lovely and bright first edition of this soup-to-nuts annual compilation usually found in poor condition -- except here, where it's handsome, with large front board pictorial giltstamping as bright as the day published. Plus, this exceptional copy bears a choice autograph addition: Tipped at bottom of an inner flyleaf (frontispiece verso) is a 4½" X 3" slip inscribed and signed large and bold in brown ink: "Sincerely Yours / Robert M. LaFollette. / Aug 22, 1904"; above this is tipped a 4" X 5" magazine portrait of LaFollette published during his governorship. LaFollette (1855-1925) served as 20th governor of Wisconsin from 1901 to 1906 and as U.S. Senator from 1906 to 1925. As senator at the time of this book's publication, his full-page portrait apppears on p. 408. Tipped to front flyleaf is a printed "Compliments of / JAMES DOLAN / Member of Assembly" slip. An interesting copy in superb condition. .
