Author: MURPHY, Edward F. Title: Heroes of World War II
Description: Novato, CA, Presidio Press, 1990. Hardcover. Small 4to. Black paper over boards with gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. viii, 365pp. Frontispiece, illustrations. Near fine/fine. Just a tight and handsome reprint edition of this chronicle of America's World War Two winners of the Congressional Medal of Honor -- but with a choice autograph addition: Tipped to center of front flyleaf is a pristine example of the 1956 nin-cent "The Alamo" U.S. postage stamp, signed boldly if tiny by CMH recipient Robert E. Galer (1913-2005), who is listed among the "World War II Medal of Honor Recipients" in the book's index. Galer was a celebrated pilot with the United States Marine Corps who received the Medal of Honor for heroism in aerial combat during the Battle of Guadalcanal; he spent the later part of his life in Texas, hence the relevance. .
