Author: WILSON, Woodrow Title: A Crossroads of Freedom: The 1912 Campaign Speeches of Woodrow Wilson
Description: New Haven, Yale University Press, 1956. Hardcover. Edited by John Wells Davidson. Preface by Charles Seymour. Small 4to. Red cloth with gilt spine lettering. xviii, 570pp. Frontispiece, illustrations. Very good. Spine sunned, else tight and internally fine. Nice first edition of this large selection, bearing the rubberstamped ownership signature on front flyleaf of one of his most ardent admirers: Adlai E. Stevenson II (1900-65), the Illinois governor and two-time Democratic presidential candidate who may well have read this during his disastrous second attempt to unseat President Eisenhower in 1956. Stevenson would have run across mention of his namesake grandfather, Adlai E. Stevenson I (1935-1914), U.S. vice president under Grover Cleveland (1893-97) , on page 402. A fun association copy. .
