Author: RIDDICK, Floyd M. Title: Senate Procedure: Precedents and Practices
Description: Washington, DC, U.S. Government Printing Office, 1974. Hardcover. Small 4to. Full limp black calf with gilt lettering and decoration. 1076pp. Marbled page edges. Very good. Quite mild bit of binding wear only; tight and internally nice, with tanning of endpapers and opening/closing leaves per usual. Senate Document No. 93-21 (93rd Congress, 1st Session) is this revision, limited to 1500 copies, of the first 1958 edition created by Charles L. Watkins and Riddick and once revised in 1964. From the collection of Illinois senator Adlai E. Stevenson III (1930-2021), who served the Land of Lincoln in this capacity from 1969 to 1983. Boldly giltstamped at lower right of front board is "Hon. Adlai E. Stevenson III." Still in place where Stevenson placed it is a paper clip at the top of leaf 726/27. Riddick (1908-2000) succeeded Watkins as Parliamentarian of the United States Senate in 1964 and served until this revised edition was published -- his major claim to fame. A kind of specialized "Robert's Rules of Order," the text spells out the many and complex rules that govern the Senate. One would have been issued to every current senator and, as they're meant for in-house use only, copies seldom appear on the market. .
