Author: TRUMAN, Margaret (1924-2008) Title: Printed Document Signed
Description: Harry and Bess Truman's only child began as a concert singer (1947-56) before she transitioned to journalism, acting, radio and television personality and finally novelist, cranking out quite a few bestselling murder mysteries; in 1950, when one simply didn't criticize the singing ability of the president's daughter, President Truman penned a scathing letter to the critic that broke this tradition (""Some day I hope to meet you. When that happens you'll need a new nose, a lot of beefsteak for black eyes, and perhaps a supporter below!"), which ended up getting published and causing a minor scandal. PDS, 1p, 6" X 10½", published in Rockford, Illinois for a 1 November 1953 concert of the Sveas Soner Chorus featuring "Miss Margaret Truman Soprano." Very good. Lightly worn and age toned, with single original horizontal fold. Below the deadline is the program, the center portion of which lists Truman's two pieces ("The Battle of Jericho" and "Were You There?"). She signs huge and vertically in pencil, running top to bottom -- likely at that very event. Unusual. .
