Pristine first edition of (to cite front jacket flap) "the first published history of Loyola University" -- and with nice autograph addition: Tipped to front flyleaf is a Typed Note Signed from foreword-provider Greeley: 1p, 8½" X 11", Chicago, IL, 9 April 1990. Addressed to Ralph Newman (1911-98, founder of Chicago's noted Abraham Lincoln Book Shop). Fine. On letterhead of NORC (National Opinion Research Center) at University of Chicago where Greeley was long a sociology professor, he writes: "Thanks much for the copy of your McMurtry lecture. It was very nicely done. Congratulations!" Signed simply "Andy" in black fineline. The lecture in question was Newman's "Preserving Lincoln for the Ages: Collectors, Collections, and Our Sixteenth President," published in 1989. Original envelope present. Greeley (1928-2013) was a Catholic priest and journalist who penned a prolific number of popular novels. Laid into this copy is an ornate "Endowment Report" with letter from a Loyola official presenting this copy to a major donor. .
