Title: XXVIII International Eucharistic Congress: June 20-24 1926 Chicago ILL
Description: Chicago, The XXIIIth International Eucharistic Congress, Inc, 1926. Hardcover. 4to. Pictorial red, black, gilt and blue paper over boards with modern black cloth tape spine. 62pp. Numerous illustrations and decorative borders. Very good. Internally fine, with mild wear to binding edges. First edition and quite handsome of this celebratory look at a major Chicago event, organized by the Archbishop of Chicago, George Cardinal Mundelein, and representing the first International Eucharistic Congress held in the United States and the second in North America. Full-page portraits include (of course) Pope Pius XI (as well as an image of the formal blessing sent by him), his representative John Cardinal Bonzano and George Cardinal Mundelein, along with images of buildings used such as Soldier Field, other notable Catholic personages, and text portions consisting of the Congress's schedule and events, blessings, lecture topics, histories, etc. A sharp copy of a title challenging to find in acceptable condition and usually bearing a perished spine -- this example with modern and acceptable black cloth spine. This nice copy is accompanied by a superb white cloth commemorative banner, 6" X 10" (rectangle that comes to point at bottom). Bright yellow embroidered edge with fringe all around, with embroidered lettering: "EUCHARISTIC / [large decorative chalice image] / CONGRESS / CHICAGO / 1926." Near fine -- an outstanding, bright example from an event that issued fairly few "souvenirs. .
