Title: Southwestern Wisconsin: A History of Old Crawford County
Description: Chicago, The S.J. Clarke Publishing Company, 1932. Hardcover. Complete 4-volume set. Dark green pebble-grain blind-ruled cloth with gilt spine lettering. xviii, 699pp; pp. 701-1414; 641pp; 631pp. Tissue-guarded frontispiece, tissue-guarded full-page plates, illustrations, marbled endpapers and page edges. Very good. Minor bit of binding scuffing, but tight and internally near fine; small ownership name imprint on front and rear flyleaf of each volume. Tight and handsome first edition of this "county history" for the enormous "Old Crawford County" out of which nine current Wisconsin counties were carved: Thus Volume I covers Crawford, Iowa, Grant, Lafayette and Green Counties and Volume II covers Dane, Sauk, Richland and Vernon Counties. Volumes III and IV are biographical sketches from notable persons from all of the above counties. A lovely copy of this scarce set. In this same year (1932) Gregory edited a companion quartette, "Southeastern Wisconsin: A History of Old Milwaukee County," which covered ten counties. FILBY 434. .
