Title: Three Wisconsin Cushings: A Sketch of the Lives of Howard B. , Alonzo H. And William B. Cushing, Children of a Pioneer Family of Waukesha County
Description: N.p. Wisconsin History Commission, 1910. Hardcover. Small 4to. Quarter vellum with gilt spine lettering and brown paper over boards with black lettering. xiv, 109pp. Frontispiece, illustrations, errata slip. Very good. Minor bit of binding edgewear only, with spine typically a tad age toned; inoffensive abrasion on rear endpaper, else tight and internally near fine. Attractive first edition, limited to 2500 copies, of the third volume in the "Original Papers" series. Popular Wisconsin writer Fred L. Holmes (1883-1946), author of classics "Alluring Wisconsin" (1937), Badger Saints and Sinners" (1939) and "Old World Wisconsin," gave this copy to the St. Thomas Aquinas Library at Saint Clara College in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin, which information is duly noted on their tasteful small bookplate on front pastedown; their small inkstamped name also appears on title page and contents page. John T. Hubbell sums it up: "Two Cushings served in Midwestern army units; the third was in the U.S. Navy; contains some data on prewar Chicago and Wisconsin." NEVINS II, 127. .
