Author: (LENIHAN, Thomas M.) Title: The Order Followed in the Consecration of a Bishop, According to the Roman Pontifical
Description: New York, The Cathedral Library Association, 1896. Paperback. 16mo. Stiff blue textured wrappers lettered in silver. (80pp), (20pp). Very good. Wrappers a tad edgeworn, with spine (extending slightly onto front wrapper) sunned and rear wrapper mottled; rear flyleaf foxed, else interior is tight and nice; tiny inkstamp of Wisconsin convent on front flyleaf. First (and only) edition of this celebratory booklet, with all pages ruled in red, text alternating between black and red, and side-by-side Latin/English text. Front wrapper titling notes, "Souvenir Issued in Honor of the Consecration of The Rt. Rev. Thomas M. Linehan, D.D. Bishop of Cheyenne in St. Micahel's Cathedral, Dubuque, Ia. Feast of St. Matthias February 24, 1897.." Lenihan (1844-1901) was celebrated in Iowa no doubt because he was ordained there in 1867, pastored in Iowa, had other Iowa connections and died there. Scarce and unusual. .
