Title: Whitefoot the Wood Mouse
Description: Boston, Little, Brown, and Company, 1926. Hardcover. Illustrations by Harrison Cady. 8vo. Dark blue cloth with gilt and black spine lettering and large front board color plate. vi, 181pp, (2pp ads). Color frontispiece, 7 full-page color plates. Very good. Faint binding edgewear, else tight and internally near fine. Lovely and tight later printing of the third volume (first published 1922) in the 4-volume "Green Forest Series." Choice autograph addition: Tipped to front flyleaf is a near fine heavy stock 5" X 7½" promotional leaflet for all of Burgess's books, as mailed by him to a young admirer. Printed entirely in green and bearing green pictorial borders showing his beloved characters, it lists all of his books in his several series -- a mini-bibliography. Bottom list shows the "Tommy and the Wishing-Stone" 4-title series, and Burgess crosses out the $2.50 price for each and writes in a slightly higher price; below this he crosses out the line "Birds You Should Know, Leather, $1.25." Finally, on the blank lower margin, he boldly pens: "1937 Tales from the Storyteller's House $2.00 / 1938 While the Story log Burns $2.00" in black ink. Burgess has not signed this piece, but the changes are entirely in his handwriting. Verso of this front flyleaf bears a fine 3½" X 2" "Compliments / of the / AUTHOR" card tipped to it; small chip to this leaf. A handsome copy with hand-corrected insert from Burgess. .
