Tissue-guarded frontispiece, 2 maps (one foldout). Near fine. Endpapers a bit age toned. A bright and lovely copy of the 38th volume in the noted "Lakeside Classics" series of historical reprints. This is the second time only that the journal of French fur trader/merchant/militia officer Vercheres (1784-1857) was published in English, the first being 1935. "The Capitulation" by unnamed author was first published in Chillicothe in 1812 and editor Quaife questions whether the "Ohio Volunteer" James Foster (named on book’s spine and list of Lakeside titles) who some identify as the author is actually correct. .
