Author: COTTEN, Joseph (1905-94) Title: Signed Film Program
Description: The magnificent-voiced football player turned actor starred in numerous films over several decades ("Gaslight," "Duel in the Sun," "Portrait of Jennie" and "September Affair" among them), but never eclipsed his roles as Holly Martins in "The Third Man" (1949) and as Jedediah Leland in Orson Welles' 1941 classic "Citizen Kane." Signed Film Program, 6½" X 9", 4pp, printed in Vienna, Austria as a promotional supplement to the November 1952 issue of the "Illustrierte Film-Kurrier," a film monthly. Front page features a closeup of stars Cotten (in CSA uniform) and Linda Darnell with the German title, "Vorposten im wilden Westen" (literally: "Outpost in the Wild West"); inner leaves (pages 2 and 3) are all text, a list of the cast and production crew at left and plot description at right; rear fourth page is a ohoto montage of several scenes from the film, and in a light area at upper right Cotten signs boldly in black fineline. Quite unusual and appealing in this form. .
