Author: GLENN, John H., Jr. (1921-2016) Title: Signature / Unsigned Photograph
Description: The first American to orbit the Earth (Project Mercury, 1962) had been a highly-decorated fighter pilot in World War Two, China and Korea before his distinguished NASA career, then became a highly-respected Democratic U.S. senator from Ohio (1974-99). On a 6" X 9" sheet of scallop-edged stationery with floral motif in upper left corner, a Glenn admirer types a suggestion that the astronaut "Please write a little verse something like this: 'Lots of luck to Donald Burnell from John H. Glenn, Jr.' Thanks a million for helping a friends hobby out." Glenn demurred penning "a littleverse," but simply signed large and bold beneath this off-the-wall request. Near fine. Faintly age toned. Not dated, but of early 1960s vintage. Accompanied by a near fine circa 1962 color postcard photograph showing the "Friendship 7" Mercury spaceship capsule; address/message side blank. .
