Pristine, tight first of this limited (unspecified) leatherbound printing of the 1980 National Book Award winner and basis for the popular 1982 film. This sharp copy bears several fine autograph additions: Tipped to front flyleaf is a heavy stock 5" X 3" card signed boldly in black ballpoint by Styron, who dates it 14 July 1986 at upper right. Tipped to the inner flyleaf are three fine matching 5" X 3" cards, each boldly signed by a film version co-star: At top is KEVIN KLINE (b. 1947; portrays Sophie's lover Nathan Landau), who signs in red fineline and dates it 10 November 1975 at upper right; below him is JOSH MOSTEL (b. 1946; portrays Morris Fink), who also signs in red fineline and dates it 8 March 1988 at upper right; below him is STEPHEN D. NEWMAN (b. 1943; portrays Larry Landau), who signs in blue ballpoint and dates it 14 May 1976 at upper right. Laid in are the perfect bookmarks: Styron, Kline, Mostel and Newman's original transmittal envelopes. Also laid in is the publisher's "Notes from the Editors" booklet. Quite an intriguing copy. .
