TARKINGTON, Booth - The Magnificent Ambersons

Title: The Magnificent Ambersons
Description: Franklin Center, PA, The Franklin Library, 1977. Hardcover. Illustrations by Roy Andersen. Small 4to. Full green calf with raised bands and elaborate gilt lettering and rules/decorations, publisher's thin card stock slipcase with gold foil label. 298pp. All edges gilt. Full-page illustrations, green moire silk endpapers, sewn-in green satin page marker. Fine/near fine. Handsome and tight limited (unspecified) leatherbound printing of the 1919 Pulitzer Prize winner and one of the best-known novels from this Hoosier mainstay. So popular was this work that it inspired a silent film (1925), a 1942 Orson Welles film (considered one of the best films ever made) and a 2002 made-for-television film -- of which this unique copy bears a fine autograph addition: Tipped to front flyleaf is a heavy stock 5" X 3" card signed huge and bold in black ballpoint by JAMES CROMWELL (b. 1940; portrays family patriarch Major Amberson), who also dates it 24 November 1982 at upper right. Laid in is the perfect bookmark: Cromwell's original transmittal envelope. .
